On Tuesday, November 15, 2022 after a long battle with cancer, John Edgar Evans, age 70, went to be with our Lord and Savior. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on July 25, 1952 in Heber Springs, Arkansas. He graduated from Heber Springs High School in 1970. From there, he spent four years in the Navy as a Fire Control Technician aboard the USS Albany. In 1973 he married the love of his life, Derenda, and they were married for 49 years at the time of his death.
From 1974 to 1990, John worked for his brother at Evans Engineers. From then until his retirement in 2014, John worked for Keathley-Patterson, as an outside salesman. John spent 31 years with the Heber Springs Fire Department and retired in 2010. He served on the Heber Springs City Council and the Heber Springs Airport Commission. John was a member of Connection Church where he was a trustee and ran the sound board for the Praise Band.
John had many friends that shared his love of the Lord, his love of motorcycles and his love for the outdoors. One of his favorite things to do was meet up with friends at Deals Gap annually where they enjoyed riding their restored motorcycles, telling stories, and sharing ideas. In the fall, he enjoyed going to deer camp and being with his hunting buddies. Other times of the year, it was not uncommon to find John fishing on the Little Red River. Many will tell you that John was an expert at making things better, finding solutions to problems, keeping things tidy, and being a family man.
John is survived by his wife Derenda, two sons Ben (Melissa) Evans and Casey Evans. He is preceded in death by one son Adam Evans. John has three grandchildren who he loved very much and bragged about daily. He was called Papa John by his grandchildren Alexis (Michael) Ludwig, Hope, and Macy. He is also survived by his brother Charles (Pam) Evans and his sister-in-law Kay Evans. A nephew, Mark (Selena) Evans and their children: Brandon, Jaden, and Spencer. A niece Linda (Stuart) Healy and their children: Andrew and Sean. A niece Tammie (Trey) McClurkin, and their children: Emma, Siah, and Hayes. A niece, Beth (Patrick) Fulks and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruel Edwin and Emma Elizabeth, one brother Thomas (Buddy) Evans, and a niece, Joanne Evans.
John loved his family and friends very much and he will be greatly missed. Until we meet again…
