Obituary for Jennie Harrer (Skilka)

Jennie Margaret Harrer passed away March 14, 2022, just two weeks after her 94th birthday. She was the daughter of Fred Skilka and Nellie (Yaremchuk) Skilka. She grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota with two older brothers, three older sisters and one younger sister.
Before her marriage she worked in administrative jobs. She had many friends with whom she spent summers at the lake and even traveled to Mexico on vacation with them.
She met her husband, Keith Joseph Harrer, on a blind date, and married a year later in 1955. In another year, they had their only child, a daughter, Nancy J. (Harrer) Staggs. Due to Keith's active-duty service in the Air Force she lived in the northeast, the southwest, and eventually settled in southern California for many years. Jennie was always active, living independently and driving until she was 93 years old. She was a homemaker, making wonderful apple pies. She enjoyed being part of bowling leagues, both women's and mixed, until she discovered golf. She became an avid golfer, playing several rounds a week. Keith and Jennie loved their time together, playing card games and traveling after retirement.
In 2012, as Keith's health began to change, they moved to Arkansas to be near their daughter, Nancy, and family. They became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Heber Springs. During her time in Arkansas, Jennie enjoyed time with her family, Church friends, reading and working puzzles.
