Obituary for Edward Johns

Edward Eugene Johns Sr. “Eddie” passed away February 21, 2022, at the age of 73 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Eddie was born December 14, 1948, in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Mary Joanne and Edward Arthur Johns.

Edward grew up in Arkansas City, Kansas. He attended grade school at IXL and graduated from Arkansas City High School. He could often be found working at Deep Rock gas station owned by his mom and stepdad Loren “Peck” Morton. Eddie later moved to Wichita where he worked as a machinist at Raytheon Aircraft. He was a loyal member of the union, and eventually retired after 32 years of service.

Edward is preceded in death by his mother Mary Joanne Morton. He is survived by his sister Patricia Oestmann, half-brothers Jimmy Johns and Loren Lee Morton; his four children Eddie Jr (Vanessa) Johns, Pam (Mike) Frisbie, Michael (Jenna) Johns, Melissa (Brett) Johns-Graham; grandchildren Jordan, Alexis, Allison, Tripp, Brooks, Brynleigh and great-grandchildren Braye, Acea, Reuely Mae, and a host of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

Edward loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing and anywhere his kids were. Later on, he was given the nickname “pops” which stuck, and he became “pops” to many. After he retired, he spent much of his free time working outside in his yard, maintaining his fishpond, “arguing” with his sister, and loving on his dogs. Although he is greatly missed by his family, they find peace knowing he is no longer in pain.

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice in his honor.

We will hold a memorial service celebrating his life May 15, 2022, in Arkansas City, Kansas at 11 a.m.
