Obituary for Donald Pearson

Donald Vaughn Pearson of Heber Springs passed away July 15, 2023 at the age of 91.
Don was born in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Cliff and Lucille (Vaughn) Pearson.
Between the dates of November 25, 1931 and July 15th 2023 Don lived a life most only dream of.
Don had many wonderful stories of his young life and growing up working on a farm as a young man. He developed a strong work ethic at a very young age that followed him throughout his life.
Don graduated high school and the University of Kansas while also attending Naval Officer training school.
Don began his active duty service in Naval Intelligence in Washington D.C. He then transferred to sea on a destroyer in the Pacific Fleet. As always, Don worked hard and excelled at everything he set his mind to and began to climb through the ranks.
Don continued his military career after his three years of active duty by serving in the Naval Reserve Intelligence Unit in Arizona, two years as officer in charge, and retiring as a Navy Captain after 23 years of service.
Don had many accomplishments in the Navy and a distinguished career,
Don was very proud of his Navy life and was honored to have served his country.
Following his 3 years of active duty Don returned to the University of Kansas to finish his law degree. Don believed in setting goals and working hard to obtain those goals for the betterment of everyone around him.
Don’s legal career began in Arizona where he became Vice President and General Council at Southern Arizona Bank in Tucson. He finished his career by developing a law department at First National Bank in Phoenix. During these years in Arizona, Don and his first wife Nelda raised their 3 wonderful daughters.
Don was an avid sailor and his time spent on the water was where he found peace and happiness. In 1983 Don retired to Arkansas to explore land that he had received from his father. It was here that he found the perfect fit of nature and once again his beloved waters for sailing. It was also here in Arkansas where he met and married Cathy and gained his bonus daughter and his Arkansas family, all of whom he loved.
Don and Cathy shared a love story everyone would envy. Their early years were spent sailing and enjoying the outdoors. As Dons health declined they relived the memories of a life well lived and a love story so very well written for two people that met by chance.
Don is survived by his wife Cathy Crosby Pearson; his daughters Janet Pearson, of Prescott, Arizona, Linda Geraci, of Tempe, Arizona, Martha Burgan (David) of Prescott Arizona, and Deana Sanders (Steve) of Heber Springs, Arkansas, his brother Herbert Pearson Anacortes, of Washington, two grandchildren; Hannah Helwege (Tim) and Joey Geraci (Grace), one nephew, Jon Pearson, his Arkansas family and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Family Funeral Service in Heber Springs, Arkansas. With the Service following at 11:00 AM
Interment will be at South Crossroads Cemetery in Hopewell Arkansas.
