Celebrating the life of Charlotte Lacy

Charlotte Lacy, born Charlotte Louise Stair on Friday January 22, 1932 in Heber Springs Arkansas was the oldest daughter of Dewey Avery Stair and Gwen Evelyn Ramer Stair. Charlotte was raised in Heber Springs and began elementary school in first grade at the age of five. Charlotte excelled in her studies and played the clarinet in the Heber Springs Marching Band in which she took worldwide recognition as shown in her “Disfarmer” photograph. Charlotte enrolled in Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway Arkansas earning a degree in education. At the young age of 18 she met and married her best friend Kenneth “Guy” Lacy. They wed on October 14, 1950. She and her husband of three weeks left Arkansas to seek employment. Charlotte obtained her degree and began her 40 year career at Dill School in Ida Arkansas. Charlotte taught at many campuses throughout the years ending her career at her alma-mater, Heber Springs Middle School as a Special Education Teacher.
On September 15, 1951 an addition to the small family arrived and was named Edward Lynn Lacy. Charlotte returned to her loved career of teaching. On November 25, 1953 Charlotte gave birth to Karen Gwen Lacy and true to fashion returned to school.Throughout teaching and becoming a mother twice over, Charlotte and her husband Guy got into the farming business and at one point in time had accumulated well over 100 head of cattle.
Charlotte could do anything she put her mind to. Charlotte painted numerous oil paintings from scenery in Cleburne County to portraits of family members and friends. Charlotte tutored kids of all ages after school and during the summers when she wasn’t in the hayfield, most of the time at no charge to the families. Charlotte gave her time to the ASU Heber Springs Campus showing her passion for higher education among the youth in her area.
When Charlotte was not teaching, farming, cooking, antique shopping or gardening she liked to travel boasting that she had been to all continents except Antarctica.
As her kids got older they married and started a family of their own transforming her into a “Charmom” because when asked why, she replied “I was not old enough to be referred to as a Grandma.”
Charlotte was very active in her church taking on roles as teacher, Sunday School Director, Bible School Director, Choir, Pianist, Church Camp Dorm Mother and was the last remaining charter member of Pleasant Ridge General Baptist Church.
Due to her faith in her Lord and Savior, Charlotte entered the gates of Heaven on August 4, 2021 and is again reunited with her husband of 69 years and many other friends and family members gone before her.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a Grandson, Stephan Eubanks. Her survivors include her son, Edward Lynn Lacy and family, daughter Karen Gwen Lacy Hendricks and family, acquaintances and friends.
To say that she will be missed is an understatement. The family requests that you keep them in your prayers and requests that you share memories with them in the future as they look forward to hearing about your times with her. She would encourage everyone to serve God with the gifts and talents that He gave you and to give Him all the glory.
“……….. Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21
