Obituary for Charles Peterson
Charles (Pete) Doonan Peterson, Age 96, went to be with his Lord and Savior, July 8, 2023 at Superior Health and Rehab in Conway AR.
Charles was born on June 16, 1927, in Rock Island, IL to Walter R. and Bernice J. (Hull) Peterson. He grew up on the family farm in rural Rock Island County near Milan IL and graduated from Reynolds High School. He would later take a correspondence course for refrigeration repair.
Charles was united in marriage in 1949 to Rozella Sheppard of Milan IL. This union was blessed with one daughter. They would later divorce. Charles was also united in marriage in 1951 to Rhea Laughead of Milan IL. This union was also blessed with two daughters. They would later also divorce. Charles was united in marriage to Judith A. Mayhew of Aledo on February 17, 1968. This union was blessed with three children.
In addition to being a husband and father, Charles held many occupations and experiences among them were, truck driving, appliance repair and retiring from Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company as the line truck maintenance man. In 1992 Charles and Judy moved to Quitman AR where they became active members of Howard Baptist Church. Charles spent many hours working alongside his wife in the food pantry at the church. In 1998 Charles and Judy became work campers and spent time in Loveland CO and winters back in AR. In 2005 they again put down permanent roots in Rose Bud AR.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Lori (Jim) Kingsbury, Carolyn (Neil) Hofer, Terry Murphy, Diana (Tim) Connolly, John S (Amanda) Murphy, Kimberly (Steve McMahon) Allision, Amy (Dustin) Townsend, and many other extended family and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Judith(Mayhew) Peterson, daughter Vicki (Mike) Bradley and son Steven (Wendy Blair) Peterson. A service of celebration of life will be held on Thursday July 20, 2023 at 11:00 am at Howard General Baptist Church, Quitman AR.
